reflections on the first #OTVStudyHall Retreat

On August 10th we had the honor of hosting the very first in-person #OTVStudyHall Retreat! The vision for the #OTVStudyHall program was always to be in person but when we launched in 2020, we of course had to pivot. This year’s retreat at the OTV Studio was a dream realized.

After we received so many incredible applications to the 2024 #OTVFellows program, we wanted to find a way to serve more artists than the cohort allowed. The #OTVStudyHall Retreat was born from that need.

A group of the highest scoring #OTVFellows applicants that were not selected for the fellowship gathered for a day of hands-on learning taught by industry leading professionals and long time collaborators, Jess King, Makiah Green, and Kiam Marcelo Julio. The retreat was facilitated by Jenna Anast and Elijah McKinnon and had three sessions:

  1. “Crafting Culturally Specific Worlds” led by Jess King

  2. “Crafting a Pitch that Lands” led by Makiah Green

  3. “Creative Wellness Kit: Tools for the Mind, Body, and Spirit” led by Kiam Marcelo Junio

Be sure to follow us on socials to get connected to to this cohort and follow their journeys. Special thank you to the MacArthur Foundation for amplifying the #OTVStudyHall Retreat and helping bring this vision to life.
